This article is about the Zero Suit itself, a suit worn by Samus at the end of Metroid: Zero Mission. For Zero Suit Samus, the character, see Zero Suit Samus.

The Zero Suit is what Samus wears under her Power Suit and other suits. The suit was originally featured in Metroid: Zero Mission, which got its name from the additional portion of the game where Samus is only in her Zero Suit. The suit soon made a second, albeit brief, appearance in the 3D Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, released later the same year. The Zero Suit has been shown at least once in every Metroid game since Zero Mission. So far, the player has only been able to control the Zero Suit in Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid: Other M. Super Smash Bros. Brawl also features Zero Suit Samus as a playable character.

The Zero Suit is a tight, full-body, blue suit with few markings over it. The suit is assumed to also have been built by the Chozo due to the Chozo-like symbol on its chest. It also has light red, glowing markings on its back which seem to serve some purpose.

Prior to 2004, Samus had always been pictured in a bikini or in underwear when not wearing one of her suits or in the event of the suit exploding.

Metroid: Zero Mission

In Metroid: Zero Mission, only negative effects are apparent. Samus loses her previously gained abilities and crash lands in a Space Pirate base. She is left with nothing but her Zero Suit and the non-damaging Paralyzer. Although in Brawl Samus in her Zero Suit becomes more agile, in Zero Mission Samus loses many of her abilities and is no more agile than she was before. In fact, losing her Suit's jumping capabilities made her less able to reach certain heights. Samus stays in her Zero Suit until she fights the unnamed boss of Chozo origin.

Metroid: Other M

In Metroid: Other M, Samus deactivates her power suit upon locating Adam's helmet. She is then forced to escape the Bottle Ship without her Power Suit. She is again equipped with the Paralyzer, and she can slide underneath objects since she cannot use her Morph Ball. Once Samus is in her Zero Suit, she cannot regain her Power Suit.

Other Appearances

Metroid Prime Series

Samus's Zero Suit appeared in Echoes, Hunters, and Corruption. In each of these appearances, Samus is not playable while in the Zero Suit. She powers down her Power Suit after successfully and efficiently completing a mission. She only powers down her suit in special endings, meaning 100% of items must be collected. Because she is not playable, it is unknown whether the suit has much practical use, though it is very unlikely in a combat environment considering she does not power down to her Zero Suit throughout the games.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

The Zero Suit also appears in Brawl, though non-canonical, in a more prominent role. Zero Suit Samus, a playable character separate from Samus, uses the suit to move quickly with great agility. With the Zero Suit, Samus is able to jump higher and further than a Power Suited Samus.
