The Charge Beam was an upgrade to Samus Aran's Power Suit that made a more powerful shot through the Arm Cannon. The Charge Beam could be used with all of the Power Beams aquired through the games. The Charge Beam first appeared in Super Metroid for the Super Nintendo and has been in all of the games that are after its release.
Metroid Prime Series
In the Prime series, the Charge Beam also took longer to travel, with any beam being used. This is most noticed in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. In addition to the Charge Beam, the player could find Charge Combos that, when combined with missles, made new abilities with devastating power. There are Charge Combos for every Beam.
In Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, the Charge Combos attacks for the Light Beam, Dark Beam, and Annihilator Beam very different attacks from when they are normally shot.
