Skree are a species of bat-like creatures that hang from ceilings. When something approaches, they will drop down and borrow into the ground, exploding soon afterward. If dive into the ground, Skree will explode and their sharp body parts will fling away, Samus will be damaged if she is hit by the shrapnel. In Super Metroid, destroying Skree before they explode will still cause the shrapnel to fly away, unlike all other Skree appearances.

While Skrees are only found on Zebes and on the Bottle Ship, the Shriekbat species found on multiple planets is highly similar.
