Virginia Aran is Samus Aran's mother and the wife of Rodney Aran. Virginia Aran's only appearance has been in the Metroid manga. She is portrayed as "family-material", very caring toward her husband and willing to protect her daughter at all costs—even her own life. Virginia first appears as she brings lunch to the hardworking Rodney. Virginia then does not appear until the Space Pirates, under the command of Ridley, attack K-2L. As Ridley is about to kill Samus, Virginia gets in Ridley's way. This saves young Samus, but Virginia herself is killed by Ridley.
