Luminescent Cylinders are encountered briefly in Metroid Prime. Their precise function is unclear.
Appearing only in the Gathering Hall of Chozo Ruins, these glowing red cylinders give off a soft light. They appear largely decorative. Scan data indicates that these objects are operating at 80% efficiency, suggesting that they might be capable of either giving off more light or performing some other primary function to a fuller extent than they are.
When Samus Aran visits the Gathering Hall, she can jump on either of these cylinders and then use her Space Jump Boots to reach the awning above the Blue Door. A Missile Expansion rests in a small alcove accessible from this awning.
