Plated Puffers are armored, poison gas filled organisms found on Tallon IV, though similar species are found on several different planets. They have no attacks, though if they are ruptured they will explode, releasing their poison gas in the process.[1] Samus cannot rupture Plated Puffers with most of her weapons, their armor can only be breached with Missiles. She encounters them in the Chozo Ruins.

Logbook

Logbook entry from Metroid Prime: Plated Puffer
First Location: Chozo Ruins - Tower of Light
Logbook - Plated Puffer
Mutated Puffer with reinforced epidermis. Phazon exposure has created a mutant strain of Puffers on Tallon IV. They have developed plated skin, making them harder to burst. Concussive weapons can still do the job, however. The gas within the Plated Puffer is just as deadly as that within their 'cousins'.[1]

Trivia

  • The Logbook suggests to use concussive weapons against Plated Puffers ("concussive weapons" usually refers to Morph Ball Bombs), however it is impractical to use Morph Ball Bombs against Plated Puffers as they can only harm Samus at close proximities.
