Derek Bonikowski is an animator employed at Retro Studios. He worked to animate the Grapple Beam and the Morph Ball.[1] He also helped to animate enemies and bosses including Thardus, the Parasite Queen and Space Pirates. Bonikowksi was the senior animator on Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. He also trained new personnel.

Bonikowski’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in animation from the University of Texas as well as studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s animation program,[2][3] where he learned stop-motion animation.[4] Prior to his employment at Retro, Bonikowski worked for MTV as an animator in the stop-motion series Celebrity Death Match.[5]
