Puffers are hovering, gas-filled organisms found on Tallon IV in Metroid Prime. They are mentioned to inhabit the Pirate Homeworld in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Info

Puffers are aggressive hunters filled with a lethal gas known as Meta-Viprium. Puffers fill their bodies with this gas to float about in search of food. Their bodies are fragile and will rapture upon contact. If ruptured, the gas within them will violently release, completely killing the Puffer and any fatally poisoning any creature that attacks.^[1]

Puffers are native to the Pirate Homeworld, though Space Pirates have cybergenetically modified them into patrol animals filled with Phazon Gas called Puffer Mines.^[2]

Gameplay

Samus encounters them in Magmoor Caverns and in the Phazon Mines. They are usually encountered in groups and avoid contact with each other, though will seek out Samus and damage her with their Meta-Viprium gas.
