Like most series from Nintendo, Metroid has had minor cameos in several games. The most prominent being the Super Smash Bros. titles, but no documentation of the series is complete without a thorough listing of all others.

Tetris DS cameo

Tetris DS features an entire gameplay mode dedicated to Metroid. "Catch Mode" deviates from the standard Tetris play by employing a smaller field of tetriminos. The objective is to build a 4x4 square which will self detonate. All the while gameplay from the original Metroid title will automatically play on screen.

Galactic Pinball[edit | edit source]

Samus was in one level of Galactic Pinball. This marks Samus's first appearance in a pinball game, and only appearance in a Virtual Boy game. In Galactic Pinball, Samus's gunship is controlled to shoot Metroids.

The Kirby series, developed by HAL has been ripe with Metroid cameos. In Kirby Super Star, Kirby is able to collect a treasure called the Screw Attack, which appears as the stylized S symbol; and one of his "Stone" attack formations manifests to a statue of Samus Aran. In Kirby's Dream Land 3, Samus tasks Kirby to kill Metroids with the "Ice" Ability's attack.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit | edit source]

Samus is a playable character throughout the Super Smash Bros. series. Since the Super Smash Bros. debut, Samus has been a starting character in the series. Many trophies relating to the Metroid series can be unlocked. An Assist Trophy in Brawl has a chance of releasing a Metroid that drains the energy of foes. Also in Brawl, a new character, Zero Suit Samus can be unlocked and used as a character. In addition, Ridley appears in the opening cutscene in Melee and as a boss in Super Smash Bros Brawl, and Kraid appears as a stage hazard in Brinstar Depths in Super Smash Bros Melee.

Super Mario series[edit | edit source]

In Super Mario RPG, if the player goes to the castle and looks in the guest room, Samus can be seen there at certain points in the game. She is asleep, but if the player interacts with her, she will mumble about how she is getting ready to fight Mother Brain. She does not play any other part in the game. The part of Mother Brain could be in reference to Metroid 3 in which her final battle against her (or final so far in the franchise) happened.

Animal Crossing series[edit | edit source]

As with other Nintendo series, a Metroid-based costume appears in Animal Crossing: City Folk. The Nintendo Accessories available through the Tom Nook Point System include the Varia suit and Samus mask. The Varia suit is based off Samus's Varia Suit while the Samus mask is based off Samus's helmet.

WarioWare Inc. series[edit | edit source]

Samus makes a couple of appearances in the WarioWare series. The multiple mini-game gameplay of WarioWare allows for easy fittings of cameos from various other Nintendo series. The 9-Volt mini-games are especially effective in bringing in characters from other series. Each game (with the exception of WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase) has at least one microgame based on the Metroid series. They usually involve controlling Samus to do a particular action, usually defeating enemies quickly.
