A PED Marine is a Galactic Federation Marine armed with a Phazon Enhancement Device. Samus first encounters them on Norion where they are helping to repel a Space Pirate attack. They serve as a demonstration of the power of Phazon, and how it greatly increases weapon power. These Marines are shown destroying many Pirates with little effort.

The Federation has created a system that utilizes Phazon to increase the power of the armor worn by GF Marines. While active, the Phazon unit enhances the attack and defense systems of the armorsuit.[1]
