Like other armored Pirates in Corruption, the Commando's armor will break off after sustaining enough damage, at which point they'll act like regular Pirate Troopers and will not become invisible, suggesting that their cloaking device is built into their armor. An easy way to kill a Commando is to use the X-Ray visor to lock onto their head and shoot it with the Nova Beam, which would penetrate the healmet and kill the Commando instantly. However, this is difficult to perform while the Commando is in [[Hypermode]], as this creates interference with the X-Ray visor and prevents Samus from locking onto them. Players can score a [[Friend Voucher]] by killing 20 Commandos.

Pirate Commandos are the elite forces of the Space Pirate military dedicated to hunting Samus.[1] Pirate Commandos were introduced in Metroid Prime 2.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

In Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Commandos are armed with an energy scythe, pulse cannons, and an EMP grenade launcher. They are armed with a Pirate Commandos can also temporarily generate a shield that can deflect nearly all attacks.[1]

Samus encounters Pirate Commandos twice in Metroid Prime 2, first in Torvus Bog where she was attacked by a pair of Commandos. Later in Sanctuary, Samus is attacked by a large group of Commandos. Dark Pirate Commandos, which are Commandos possessed by Hunter Ing,[2] are encountered far more often in Echoes.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Pirate Commandos reappear in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and are significantly different than those fought in Echoes. Found exclusively on the Pirate Homeworld, Commandos use the same weapons used by the basic Pirate Troopers, but wore armor made from Phazite, making them extremely resistant to damage, although this armor could be pierced by high-frequency beams and is still vulnerable to Phazon-based weapons. These tenacious warriors stood out against lesser troops with their ability to teleport and become invisible, possibly using the same technology used by the Shadow Pirates; while invisible, they could only be located with the X-Ray Visor.

Like other armored Pirates in Corruption, the Commando's armor will break off after sustaining enough damage, at which point they'll act like regular Pirate Troopers and will not become invisible, suggesting that their cloaking device is built into their armor. An easy way to kill a Commando is to use the X-Ray Visor to lock onto their head and shoot it with the Nova Beam, which would penetrate the helmet and kill the Commando instantly. However, this is difficult to perform while the Commando is in Hypermode, as this creates interference with the X-Ray visor and prevents Samus from locking onto them.

According to the Pirate Commander's logbook entry, Commandos can rank up to Commanders if they withheld their rank for at least ten years.
