Stone Toads are creatures indigenous to the Chozo Ruins of Tallon IV. They are equipped with incredibly thick exoskeletons, making them impervious to standard attack forms, hence the name "Stone Toads". When a Stone Toad comes to rest somewhere they are difficult to budge, and because of their size they can block entire passageways. While they are predatory in nature, they will only attack creatures smaller than themselves, and will attempt to ingest Samus if she is in Morph Ball mode. Upon discovering she is indigestible, a Stone Toad will promptly regurgitate her; however, if Samus lays a Morph Ball Bomb while inside the mouth of a Stone Toad it will explode from the concussive force. According to the logbook, Stone Toads will use their tusks in combat as a last resort,[1] though this is never seen in-game.

Logbook Entry

Logbook entry from Metroid Prime: Stone Toad
Logbook - Stone Toad
The Stone Toad preys on creatures smaller than itself, and is vulnerable only from within. A Stone Toad is able to remain still for days, then it quickly swallows its prey whole. Anything it finds indigestible, it regurgitates. As a last resort, a Stone Toad will use its tusks in combat.

A Stone Toad has a bulbous body and large green eyes. A rock-hard exoskeleton allows it to sit motionless for long periods of time.
