Template talk:Cite manual

From Metroid Wiki

Linking to Metroid Recon's scans[edit source]

I'd like to link to Metroid Recon's scans of the manuals, similarly to how we did with the Cite manga template (I could type the template name in my sleep, I referenced 70 references with that template, lol). I think that the problems that we encountered with the Cite manga template won't occur here, so that won't be a problem. Any objections, or should I go for it? I was thinking the same thing really, and after paying close attention, it does indeed have problems. The main problem is the fact that the url for each image has a different number than the page number, but i'll give it a shot anyways :] It should be fun --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 21:40, 14 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Done lol, that was fun :D the code for it got extremely complicated looking, but it's completely functional and the input for the template stays as it was. Except now it also handles shortcuts, like instead of writing out "[[Metroid Prime 3: Corruption]]" you can also just write "mp3" and they'd work the same. Believe it or not, that large wall of text is necessary to get the links to recon correct lol --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 22:42, 14 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I saw it, I haven't done much template programming (not that type anyway, I did create a nav template on the Mario wiki) as you can see at the test page I created to see if I could do it myself. I was attempting to use Metroid Recon's abbreviations of the game names, but I couldn't work it out. The only reason I understand the wall of text is because I have a basic knowledge of C or C-based programming, but it seems to work well. I'm glad it actually works fine haha, it just took a couple equations to get the pages right. --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 00:17, 15 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, I'd settle for the template working however :)... Trial and error are your friends. Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 01:06, 15 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Trial and error seem to be my best friends lol, lookin around some of the more important templates' histories, you'll see I try and fail many... many times... --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 16:32, 16 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
