This article is about the ship seen in Metroid Prime. For the Super Smash Bros. Brawl stage, see Frigate Orpheon (stage).

Frigate Orpheon is a Space Pirate vessel that stores much data from many creatures native to Planet Zebes. It appears in Metroid Prime. Samus Aran is sent there after she receives a distress signal from its remaining crew. The Parasites escaped from their cells, killing much of the crew. Samus infiltrated the disaster, only to confront a Parasite Queen that fell into the ship's reactor and caused it to crash, Samus barely escaping. Whilst escaping Samus comes across the rebuilt Meta Ridley, who breaks free of his restrains and escapes the crashing ship fleeing to the planet below to oversee Space Pirate activity. She lost most of her upgrades, as commonly happens in early stages of Metroid games, in an explosion in one of the elevators.

The Second Visit

After Samus obtains the Gravity Suit in Phendrana Drifts, she is able to explore the now downed Orpheon. Aqua Reapers have infested the frigate. A few pirates have stayed behind, most likely searching for survivors. The ship's power is ultimately down, causing Samus to have to activate power conduits with her Wave Beam and Thermal Visor. The vessel only has one Missile Expansion and one Energy Tank, and is the only route to enter Phazon Mines without Power Bombs, which are found in the area anyway.

Other Appearances

Main article: Frigate Orpheon (stage)

"Frigate Orpheon" is a stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. A Parasite Queen is seen hanging in the background. The stage is unique in the way that it occasionally flips completely upside down. This feature, however, does not reflect any actions in Metroid Prime's Frigate Orpheon.

There is also a stage in the Metroid Prime 2 Multiplayer called Sidehopper Station that resembles the Frigate Orpheon.
