The SA-X, presumably an abbreviation for Samus Aran-X, strain of X Parasite was created by the infected sections of Samus Aran's Power Suit. An SA-X awakens in the Quarantine Bay and escapes using a Power Bomb, and begins wreaking havoc throughout the B.S.L Research Station. Like all X, SA-X can reproduce asexually. As a result, there were at least 10 SA-X on board the station towards the end of Metroid Fusion.

Throughout the events of Metroid Fusion, Samus is instructed constantly to avoid any SA-X encountered, since they are exponentially stronger than Samus in her weakened state, and have Ice Beams, Samus' newfound crippling weakness as a side effect of the Metroid Vaccine. Samus stands no chance against an SA-X until she obtains weapons that can even damage one (the Ice Missile and Plasma Beam). though the SA-X is supposedly very intelligent it has bad AI. In Sector 2 (TRO) the SA-X will chase samus before she face's Nettori. During that chase, it can be made to somersolt over samus repeatedly as she hides in a 1 block morph ball hole. it will continue doing this until you either get out, or move left or right while it is facing you.

Even with these weapons, Samus at first only manages to damage the SA-X to the point where it transforms to a beastly creature. Once this creature is defeated, the SA-X reverts to a blue Core-X, but escapes instead of facing her like that. This Core-X is later absorbed by Samus after losing again to the Omega Metroid. Because she absorbs a copy of her Power Suit, she gains access to all of her former upgrades, as well as reverting to her real Varia Suit's color scheme. With the suit, she gains the Ice Beam, which she uses to defeat the Omega Metroid.
