Wikitroid is an online encyclopedic wiki based on the Metroid series. It was founded in 2005 on Wikispaces but was moved to Wikia (formerly known as Wikicites) January 2008. It was by a user known as Wikitroid[citation needed]. Upon Wikitroid's thirty second edit, he or she seems to have abandoned the wiki for the community to uphold. The wiki originated on Wikispaces, but on August 1, 2005 it moved to Wikia where it has remained there since.[1] Wikitroid is a Metroid wiki, not unlike Metroid Wiki, however there are many notable differences.
Wikitroid Staff
Wikitroid has gone through several staff members. All are listed below in chronological order.[2][3] Those marked as "Retired" no longer have higher staff powers. Those marked as "Inactive" still have those powers but have not edited Wikitroid in over two months. Only administrators and bureaucrats are listed, not patrollers, rollback, or any other usergroups.
Metroid Wiki and Wikitroid
Because of the similar openly editable Metroid natures of Metroid Wiki and Wikitroid, the two websites were at some point rivals. Around two weeks after Metroid Wiki's launch, a Wikitroid administrator suggested merging Metroid Wiki into Wikitroid.[4] The idea, however, was immediately and firmly turned down as Metroid Wiki was created to remain a new and wikifarm-independent website.
During Metroid Wiki's first month or so, some Metroid Wiki articles were copied and pasted directly from Wikitroid by new and uninformed users. Because of these users, it became Metroid Wiki policy to expel such actions, Metroid Wiki's contemporary staff specifically spelled out what is and is not allowed in terms to inter-wiki behavior, including copying content.[5] Upon Metroid Wiki's June 2010 staff reorganization, the new team, along with other inherited responsibilities, made an effort to flesh out any remaining content from other sites including Wikitroid. Since then, any copied content has been speedily deleted or replaced.
Since around that time, both wikis have for the most part left each other alone. Wikitroid users and Metroid Wiki users are more-often-then-not friendly toward each other. There are, however, occasional vandals vandalizing either wiki in the name of the other. Such actions, however, are not tolerated by either party.
Around October 2010, many wikis situated on Wikia began moving their wikis to other wikifarms or independent hosting. Many Nintendo-based franchise wikis were inducted to NIWA, the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance that Metroid Wiki is a part of. During this series of migrations, Wikitroid considered options such as changing wikifarms or becoming independent.[6] Metroid Wiki's Nathanial Rumphol-Janc offered Wikitroid an opportunity to move off Wikia and merge with Metroid Wiki. Wikitroid, like Metroid Wiki, firmly denied a merge of the two wikis and remained on Wikia where it continues to reside.
Most tensions surrounding both wikis have died out and both remain in an at least neutral relationship.
