Generates electromagnetic interference

Electromagnetic Pulse Grenades, usually abbreviated EMP Grenades, are projectile weapons used by Space Pirates in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

When detonated, these EMP grenades generate a burst of electromagnetic radiation that can produce damaging currents. The effects are devastating to power-armored opponents, whose Visor technology is temporarily disabled by these bursts. The interference incurred from EMP grenades decreases the farther one is from the detonation, making them ineffective against agile foes or in close combat.

These grenades are still in the experimental stages during Echoes and used primarily by Ing-possessed Dark Pirate Commandos who steal them from Space Pirates.[1] By the events of Corruption, these grenades were basic armaments for all Pirate Troopers.[2]

The Hunter Ing ability to phase out of local timespace carries over to the Dark Pirate Commando. They will fire bursts of dark matter at enemies, along with experimental EMP grenades stolen from the Space Pirates." —Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Logbook "Dark Pirate Commando" (Metroid Prime 2: Echoes)
