The Metroid Prime series is a three-dimensional series starting with the series' revival in 2002. Games have been released on the Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo DS, and Wii. Metroid Prime consists of a trilogy opening and closing the Phazon saga, an almost completely unrelated side-game, and a retelling of the first game in the series. Until Metroid: Other M, games in the Prime series were the only games taking place in a three-dimensional environment.

The Prime trilogy is considered the center of the Prime series. It consists of Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. These three games, along with Metroid Prime: Trilogy, a combination of the three aforementioned games, were developed by Retro Studios and Nintendo.
