In Metroid Prime, the Phazon Mines is a Space Pirate mining facility to harvest Phazon and use it for warfare. The mines are only accessible through the crashed Space Pirate frigate in the Tallon Overworld. In the first several rooms, Phazon covers the rooms' floors. Genetically altered space pirates work there, including pirates that are only vulnerable to one of Samus's beams, and the Elite Pirates, which are twice the size of Samus. In her first visit, she aquires the Power Bombs and regains her Grapple Beam. Her next visit, after obtaining the X-Ray Visor and the Plasma Beam, consists of her going through dangerous Metroid Quarantines, leading up to the Omega Pirate which grants Samus the Phazon Suit.
