In Metroid Prime, the Arm Cannon shifts into a different configuration when the Wave Beam is active.

The Wave Beam is one of the upgrades to Samus's basic Arm Cannon designed by the Chozo. Its exact function varies between its appearances.

In Metroid, Metroid II: Return of Samus and Super Metroid Samus's Arm Cannon to fire a single oscillating beam. In Metroid: Zero Mission, the Arm Cannon fires three simultaneous-oscillating beams.
