Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is a first-person adventure video game that revolves around combat, puzzle-solving, and platform-jumping. It is the second game released in the Prime series, though is chronologically set after Metroid Prime Hunters.
Gameplay
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes takes place on the planets Aether, and its dark twin, Dark Aether. Samus is capable of traveling through the two via Portals. The Space Pirates and Metroids were less of a focus in Echoes, with the primary antagonists of Echoes are the Ing.<ref>{{Cite person| quote= It was a conscious effort from Retro and Nintendo to downplay the space pirates and Metroids in this particular game. Many aspects of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes are similar to Metroid Prime As with the first Metroid Prime, Samus is already in possession of multiple upgrades in the beginning of the game. This equipment is quickly stolen however.

After the Federation loses contact with the marines of GFMC Task Force Herakles near Aether, they hire Samus Aran to investigate it and provide assistance. Her ship is damaged by a storm as she enters Aether's atmosphere, preventing her from leaving until its repairs are complete. After landfall, she finds her path obstructed so she takes an alternate route through a Splinter hive. There, she finds the marines dead.

After finding the Tyr, she learned that while on patrol they engaged a Space Pirate frigate. While following it into the atmosphere of Aether, their ship was disabled, forcing them to land on Aether. The crew set up a base and attempted to repair the ship. Eventually they were attacked by wild animals forcing them to fall back to their base. After several assaults they were all wiped out.<ref>{{cite|While on patrol in the Dasha system, we engaged an unknown Space Pirate frigate. <!--- Info regarding the production of the game would help, make it around one or two paragraphs. --->
Production of Echoes announced in 2003. A Link to the Past developers provided assistance due to familiarity with the concept. Elements not included in Prime due to time constraints were implemented in Echoes. Wanted more opportunities to do unique boss fights. Super Metroid inclusion was discussed but not implemented cause of time constraints.

The Chozo Ruins are the remains of a great civilization that Samus visits in Metroid Prime and one of the main areas on Tallon IV along with Tallon Overworld, Magmoor Caverns, Phendrana Drifts, and the Phazon Mines.

Many reviewers noted that Metroid Prime 2: Echoesis more difficult than the original Prime, but also commented that it is more rewarding.

History
The multiplayer included in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes received negative reception. Kristan Reed of EuroGamer said that single player mechanics were not meant to be translated into multiplayer and that players would tire of it easily. Most reviewers said that the multiplayer was average and unnecessary. Some reviewers did say that they enjoyed the multiplayer however.
Founding
At an unspecified point in history, Chozo settlers left their home planet of Zebes and colonized Tallon IV. These colonists made a conscious decision to abandon their technologically advanced lifestyle and live in harmony with nature, and their descendants left behind lore to honor their legacy. Consequently, they constructed what later became the Chozo Ruins with simple materials, forming their city's architecture around the natural landscape: buildings were hewn from stone, bridges were woven with branches, halls followed watercourses and chambers surrounded ancient trees. In the deeper portions of their city, they built sentient statues in their likeness, as well as other non-sentient sculptures for purposes decorative and otherwise. Several years after the initial settling began, the Chozo began developing new senses that allowed them to glimpse the future, an evolution that they believed to be a sign of their "harmonization with the infinite;" in these visions they foresaw the coming of a Worm that would destroy their world.
Architecture
In addition to the trademark simplistic, unobtrusive, natural materials that make up the Ruins, other distinctive Chozo designs make them unique. Smooth, carved Half Pipes, testaments to the painstaking craftsmanship of Chozo builders, appear in several chambers. Mammoth, sometimes luminescent, etchings of ancient Chozo runes are situated decoratively on walls, platforms, and floors throughout the Ruins. Complex Runic Symbols and translucent, holographic runic messages capable of producing nonpolluting, self-sustaining illumination are also found here.

While the Chozo on Tallon IV chose to live without advanced technology, metal hallways connecting two areas through large rock masses are sometimes used, and hallways lined with large pipes venting steam evidence some sort of steam powered system in the area, though its function is not specified.
Several reviewers were critical of the some issues that come with locking onto enemies, but said that it was manageable. Other complaints came from the difficulty increasing in some parts due to a lack of Save Stations.

A meteor impact on Tallon IV led to the spread of a Great Poison over the planet's surface, corrupting the ecosystem and mutating the wildlife. One of the mutated creatures took root in their sacred fountain, poisoning the water supply of the city. The Phazon corruption even led to hauntings by Chozo Ghosts, called by their fellow Chozo "The Turned" - entities that know no reason beyond the instinctive urge to protect Chozo lands. The Chozo contained the spread of the Poison but could not destroy it, and so they left knowledge and technology for the Entrusted One they had glimpsed in their visions and abandoned their mortal forms. Time and the Great Poison continued to erode the city until it became overgrown ruins.

The Chozo ruins as they exist when Samus arrives are filled with hazards from the lingering Great Poison. Chozo Ghosts continue to haunt many religious sites after the purification and respawn after Samus leaves a room in which they abide. The Chozo Ruins contain the most upgrades in the game, as well as five Energy Tanks and nineteen Missile Expansions. The area also has most of the Chozo Lore.

The Space Pirates and Metroids were less of a focus in Echoes, with the primary antagonists of Echoes are the Ing.[1]Reword?

Many aspects of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes are similar to Metroid Prime As with the first Metroid Prime, Samus is already in possession of multiple upgrades in the beginning of the game. This equipment is quickly stolen however.

After Samus clears an obstruction that the marines placed to protect themselves from the Splinters, unknown creatures possess the marines' bodies.
