Inhabitants

The Sanctum is the final room on Phaaze in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Description

The Sanctum is the deepest room on Phaaze and requires quite a trek through the Phazon-poisoned atmosphere to get there. It's a rather large room with a large, circular opening in the floor. It also features Phazon-encrusted walls around the area that Samus can walk on during the fight with Dark Samus that collapse after Dark Samus is 'repulsed' and merges with AU-313 which reveals a distance view of the depths of Phaaze. When Samus is in the Genesis Chamber and destroy the Leviathan Infant there, the covering over the Sanctum is destroyed, releasing dozens of Miniroids.

Encounter

When Samus jumps down the hole in the Genesis Chamber, she falls down a very large shaft, she does a front flip and lands on the circular area of the floor, which after a few seconds, opens. Samus rolls into her Morph Ball and rolls to safety, coming out just in time to see Dark Samus rise from the depths of Phaaze. She lands and energizes herself and begins for the ultimate showdown. A fierce battle commences, with Samus overpowering Dark Samus, she eventually creates clones of herself, called "echoes" that possess all the powers of the original Dark Samus and can attack cooperatively to deal massive damage to Samus. After Samus defeats Dark Samus, the crystallized Phazon walls crumble, revealing a larger area. Then Aurora Unit 313, which was stolen from the GFS Valhalla rises up, and Dark Samus merges with it. It continues the final battle with Samus. Samus eventually overpowers the AU and defeats it once and for all. It falls to the ground and explodes, revealing Dark Samus in a state of defeat and devastation. She explodes in a flash of blue Phazon particles similar to those in Metroid Prime 2: Exhoes and appears to be the end of her. A few moments later, Samus feels overwhelmed by the Phazon energy given off by Dark Samus' apparent death and collapses to the ground. Then a cutscene shows the Phazon inside Samus' body disappearing, her PED Suit returns to normal color and she is no longer in a corrupted state. The planet starts to become unstable and Samus makes for her Gunship to escape before Phaaze ceases to exist.

Trivia

  • Dark Samus' style of death is identical to that in Echoes, and yet she supposedly is destroy forever. This is not proven, however.
  • The Miniroids in the Sanctum may have been being corrupted when Samus freed them. These could be used to defend future Leviathans.
  • During the Dark Samus fight, if the X-Ray Visor is equipped, the echoes appear hollow, but Dark Samus has an orange skeleton. This makes finding her easier, especially when she is recovering health.
  • If the X-Ray Visor is used to scan the room, a large tunnel can be seen from the area where Dark Samus rose out of the floor when Samus first entered.
