The PED Suit is a unique armor system developed for Samus Aran after she is corrupted by Phazon during the events of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. It relies upon the Galactic Federation-developed Phazon Enhancement Device technology to harness the power of Phazon for use in battle.

Normally, a PED draws energy from Phazon stored in a backpack, as is the case with PEDs used by Federation PED Marines. Samus's and the other Bounty Hunters' PED Suits, however, draw energy from the Phazon stored inside of their respective bodies; therefore, Samus must use an Energy Tank to activate Hypermode. The PED suit also alters the Morph Ball appearance to a blue form, similar to the bright blue color indicating the presence of Phazon or a Phaaze-like substance. Frequent use of the PED mode is extremely dangerous; prolonged use can ultimately lead to total corruption. The PED suit also reduces damage inflicted on Samus.

The palette of the suit changes gradually as it is exposed to the corrupting effects of Phazon, with its darker red and blue colors becoming more pronounced, especially after defeating Leviathans. The changes to the suit's appearance correlates to the changes Samus undergoes as she becomes more corrupted.
