The Speed Booster is an ability allowing Samus to run with an increased speed. Once Speed Boosting, Samus can destroy any most common enemies by running into them. It can destroy special blocks, and must be used such to progress.

There is also a secret technique introduced in Super Metroid, shown by the Dachora, called the Shinespark. It has been in every 2D Metroid game since that. In Metroid: Zero Mission as well as Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, there are some things that can charge the speed while Samus is in Morph Ball mode. The Speed Booster made its first 3D appearance in Metroid: Other M.

Trivia

  • Because Samus weighs 90kg[1] and the Speed Booster allows Samus to move at supersonic speed[2] (above 1,126 feet per second), then a Speed Boosted Samus attacks with over 33634.0704 Newtons of force per run.
  • Interestingly, in Super Metroid, Samus cannot Speed Boost through frozen enemies
