Template talk:Room-infobox

From Metroid Wiki

Hostile Inhabitants[edit source]

This means that rooms with non-hostile enemies will not have them listed within the parameters. For the sake of argument, I'm going to define "non-hostile" as "Any creature that exists in Aether or Dark Aether that inhabits a room, is not a Luminoth, and may or may not damage Samus". This is a pretty decent mess when you consider that an Ing would definitely qualify as a hostile inhabitant, but a Torvus Bearerpod does not attack Samus, yet deals damage when Samus blows open their guts. Then there are the Sentinel Crystals, and the Bladepods, which don't attack or deal damage, but inhabit said room and should belong on the infobox somewhere. Comments? With those latter cases, isn't Samus the hostile inhabitant since it's through her provocation? I think that for ease of use, the inhabitants portion of the template should apply to every living thing in the room, not just anything considered hostile, and that anything deemed hostile can be described as such in its description in the article. I guess... In most cases, the only person who sees that the parameter is intended for hostiles is the person using the template anyway. Maybe we should stick Samus on the list of inhabitants? Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 01:17, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm not sure if taking a casual stroll through a room (over-simplified, but more or less accurate) counts as inhabiting it...I suppose the exception would be rooms to which she must come back to more than once in order to complete her mission, by which I mean rooms containing areas she may come across at some point but not properly explore until she is properly equipped. I don't know if I'm overanalyzing things, but I'm trying not to give "inhabit" an arbitrary definition. Metroid4Ever 01:24, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It was a joke ;)... Anyway, yeah, she doesn't inhabit the room per se... Still, it's intriguing how we might perceive the word "inhabit". Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 01:28, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The way I have been doing it with the Prime 1 rooms is to include all living creatures/mechanoids that are in the room that can be scanned as creatures. So, this would include any real enemies, while not including decorative plantlife. By this definition, Bearpods and bladefins would not be included, but i'm not sure how they want to do it with prime 2, because although the bearpods and bladefins are research entries, they are also alive. I feel they shouldn't be included in the infobox, but the choice is up to the admins. --Nintendbob 10:38, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I guess it's time for an inhabitants template. If you guys take a look at this here, you'll notice a table that shows the rooms, areas, and number (though not in that case for obvious reasons) of enemies of that species that appear. I had planned to make a backwards version of that template to go on room pages, one that shows the species and number of each enemy appearing in room X. There was, however, no need for such a template because we hadn't started making room pages yet. So I'll get to work on that, it'd probably make this section of the infobox obsolete. --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 16:29, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

This template would include all important inhabitants, from Bladepods to Ingsmashers btw. Now the hardest part of templates... what to name it... --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 16:33, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I've seen the template before, and I think that the reverse template is a good idea. That should make it simultaneously easier and harder to keep track of the inhabitants; some of the rooms have a drastic change in enemy or inhabitant appearances based on when in the game you enter the room; should be some way of discriminating from, say, a room with no Ing presence before, but if you are travelling with the planetary energy, then they attack. Recommend testing on Dark Agon Temple. Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 19:07, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ok that recommendation about when the inhabitants are inhabiting the room taken into consideration
Inhabitants
Creature Number When
Amorbis 3 Prior to acquisition of Dark Suit
Warrior Ing 3 After acquisition of Dark Agon's energy
How does something like that look? MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 19:21, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That seems as if it would do quite nicely. Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 19:56, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
