Samus Aran is the main protagonist of the Metroid series. She first appeared in Metroid in 1986 and has been included in every Metroid game since. Her home planet is K-2L.

Biography

Samus Aran started out as a young girl on the mining colony of K-2L with her parents Rodney Aran and Virginia Aran. When she was three years old, her hometown was visited by the Chozo, a bird-like race. They came in peace, and Samus immediately found a spark of interest with one of the Chozo elders, Old Bird. The two became close and built up a loving friendship.

To much of Samus' dismay, a Space Pirate flagship came to the innocent colony and a raid started, led by none other than Ridley. Samus' three-year old mind could not comprehend the nature of violence, and asked Ridley if they could become friends. Feeling humiliated, Ridley made a strike to kill Samus, but her mother got in the way, taking the fatal hit for her. Rodney also sacrificed himself to destroy the flagship. Ridley left the scene, but one mistake was left under all the dust of the battle; the mistake was indeed Samus Aran, the only survivor of the attack. After her mourning sorrows, she vowed to have her revenge on Ridley.

When all hope for the little girl seemed to be lost, Old Bird and the rest of the Chozo came to her aid. They brought her to their home planet of Zebes and decided to allow her to fulfil her wish and made her a great warrior. By infusing her with Chozo blood and giving her the Power Suit, a bio-mechanical suit with many weapons and functions. For many years to come, Samus was taught by the Chozo their culture and their ways of battle. As a teenager, her physical atributes far overwhelmed those of a regular human's. However, when the time came, Samus had to say goodbye to the Chozo race and her old friend. She did this so she can join the Federation Police, a huge spike in her life.

The Female Hunter

When Samus arrived at the Federation academy, she exceeded far above all the other volunteers. She was given even greater superhuman strength, and was issued into the Star Trackers, an organization that one in a million officers reaches its expectations. She was placed under the order of Commander Adam Malkovich, who gained a great trust with Samus. He always finished an order by stating "Any objections, lady?" as a symbol of trust. A few years later, however, Samus mysteriously dissapeared after Malkovich died to save her. The period of absence is covered with mystery, and when she returned as a bounty hunter, a whole new story began.

Metroid

In the original Metroid, Samus began her first major mission. She was assigned to infiltrate the Space Pirate base on Planet Zebes and destroy their base of operations, Mother Brain.

Metroid II: Return of Samus

After the events of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Samus was ordered to eradicate the Metroid population on the planet of SR388. Samus successfully destroys all but one of the remaining metroids. Having defeated the fearsome Metroid Queen, she discovers the last surviving member of the species, a newborn metroid hatchling. Samus decides to save the last remaining metroid and brings it to Federation scientists. Return of Samus tells the story of this mission.

After Samus' mission on SR388, she brings the Infant Metroid to the Ceres Space Colony to have scientists harness its power. After it is stolen by Ridley, she returns to Zebes to find it. Upon arrival she finds Zebes once again crawling with Space Pirates along with her old adversaries, Ridley and Kraid. Eventually she discovers that the Space Pirates have managed to rebuild Mother Brain and are once again planning to turn the metroids into a weapon of mass destruction. Samus fights her way through the Space Pirates' defenses and confronts Mother Brain in the newly constructed Tourian area. With the help of the last metroid Samus is able to defeat Mother Brain and put a stop to the Space Pirates' plan once and for all.
