Ice Missiles are Missile upgrades in the Metroid series. As a direct upgrade to the regular concussive Missiles, Ice Missiles not only deal damage via an explosion, but also slows enemies down by freezing them. Some enemies, such as Metroids, are more susceptible to the freezing effect than others.
Appearances
Metroid Fusion
Ice Missiles first appeared in Metroid Fusion as an alternative to the Ice Beam, as the Federation was afraid that Samus would reject the Ice Beam upgrade because of the Metroid DNA spliced into her genes; the Metroid DNA caused her to share the Metroid's susceptibility to low temperatures. Ice Missiles can freeze enemies and living things.

In Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, they are obtained after defeating Rundas in the Temple of Bryyo on Bryyo. They can freeze enemies and Fuel Gel. They serve as a replacement to the Ice Beam, like Echoes' Dark Beam. Though the reason for using Missiles instead of a beam is never explained, it is likely due to Samus's inability to change beam weapons and with one of the beams being a heat-based weapon, Samus would be incapable of freezing foes. Ice Missiles can destroy White Blast Shields blocking access to doors.
Trivia
- If a Reptilicus throws its boomerang at Samus and she freezes the creature before the boomerang gets back to it, the boomerang will shatter the reptile and Samus will receive a Friend Voucher and "Icy Repltilicide" will appear on the screen.
