Chozo statues, also called Artifactor statues in Metroid II: Return of Samus, are the sentient, guardian statues of the Chozo, located on the planets the Chozo colonized. Chozo statues appear in nearly all Metroid games. In some games, they have the ability to heal Samus Aran if she enters Morph Ball mode and rests on the palms of the statues. Generally, the statues are either inanimate, or only perform general functions helpful to Samus's quest. The exception to this rule is Super Metroid's Torizo statues, which attack Samus after she takes the item the Statue holds.
History
The Chozo practice of sculpting statues is a sacred, millennia-old process, performed only by Chozo who have lifetimes of experience. The statues are sentinels to the Chozo and act and repositories for their secrets and powers.[1]
Appearances
Metroid
Chozo statues were first featured in Metroid. Here they contained various upgrades placed and hidden by the Chozo.
Metroid Prime
The only sentient Chozo Statue in Prime was a statue of a Chozo Elder encountered in the Hall of the Elders.[2] If Samus rested in the palms of the statue while in Morph Ball form, it would cast her forwards through different tracks which could be manipulated by Bomb Slots to reach new areas and items.
Interestingly, the first time Samus encounters this statue, a Chozo Ghost attacks and the eyes of the statue flame. During subsequent attacks by Chozo Ghosts, the eyes will not flame, but Samus will be unable to rest in its hands.

Non-Sentient Chozo Statues
Not all statues made by the Chozo were sentient; some were purely decorative or only minimally functional. These were usually distinctively birdlike and were either honorary depictions at religious sites or aesthetic functional pieces, such as drains for waterways.

The statues are our sentinels; blind but ever watchful, they are, and have always been, repositories for our most precious secrets and strongest powers. The crafting of each is a long and sacred process, performed only by those Chozo who have lifetimes of experience in such things. We have left these relics on planets across the solar system. Some are merely reminders; silent emblems of the Chozo that serve as icons of peace in lands that know only war. Others wield subtle strength, exerting their influence in ways beyond the understanding of mortal creatures. Still others are guardians of our secret ways, and these can be as terrible as they are beautiful. Those who respect and honor these relics will know the friendship of the Chozo. Those who deface or destroy them will know our wrath, unfettered and raw." —Metroid Prime Logbook "Statuary" (Metroid Prime)
