The Boost Ball is an upgrade for the Morph Ball that has appeared in the Prime series. It allows Samus to, when in Morph Ball mode, have an extra boost in speed, similar to the Speed Booster. The more Samus charges the boost, the faster she will go, relative to the Charge Beam.

Metroid Prime

The Boost Ball first appeared in Metroid Prime. It is found in Phendrana Canyon of Phendrana Drifts. It allows Samus to boost up half pipes and activate Spinner devices. It is needed to acquire several upgrades such as the Space Jump Boots and the Ice Beam.

Metroid Prime Hunters

Samus is in possession of the Boost Ball at the beginning of Metroid Prime Hunters. It works slightly differant than its other appearences. While in the Morph Ball, if the player flicks the stylus in a direction, the ball will quickly boost in said direction. It requires a few moments to recharge, but requires no precharge to use. It is not required in any way to beat the game, only as a time saver in Morph Ball tunnels.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

The Boost Ball upgrade from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

In Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, the Boost Ball is stolen by a Warrior Ing then reacquired by defeating the Boost Guardian in Dark Torvus Bog. It can now damage enemies on contact and is used to propel the Morph Ball to nearby Spider Ball Tracks.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

The Boost Ball is acquired in SkyTown after defeating the Defense Drone in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Like in Echoes, the Boost Ball can damage enemies and propel Samus to Spider Ball Tracks. It is required to free Aurora Unit 217 and defeat Ghor.

Spinner Devices

The Boost Ball can operate active "Spinner Devices". Samus can enter Morph Ball Mode and enter the device, charge up her Boost Ball, and activate it rapidly to allow the device to open up a walkway, open a door, flip a switch, or as shown in Corruption, use static electricity to power up a conduit.

Manual info from Metroid Prime
Boost Ball: The Boost Ball accelerates the Morph Ball. Once Samus finds this power-up, press and hold the B Button to build up a speed boost. When you release the B Button, Samus will accelerate in the direction she is rolling. This is especially useful for boosting up the sides of half-pipe areas.[1]
Manual info from Metroid Prime Hunters
Boost Ball: Quickly slide the stylus in any direction on the Touch Screen to activate the Boost in that direction. This allows the Morph Ball to move at a higher speed for a short time. You can also boost by charging the R Button (L Button in left-handed control modes).[2]
Manual info from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Boost Ball: Once Samus finds this power-up, press and hold the B Button to build up a speed boost. When you release the B Button, Samus will accelerate in whatever direction she is rolling or even boost up halfpipes.[3]
Manual info from Metroid Prime Trilogy
Boost Ball: Once you have obtained the Boost Ball ability, press and hold the B Button to charge the ability, and then release the B Button to give a boost to the Morph Ball's speed. Note that the longer you hold the B Button, the faster your boost will be.[4]

Boost Ball: If you have the Boost Ball ability, press and hold the B Button to charge the ability, and then release the B Button to give a boost to the Morph Ball's speed. Note that the longer you hold the B Button, the faster your boost will be.[5]

Samus's Notes

Metroid Prime

"When charging, the longer you hold B Button GCN.png , the longer (and faster) the Boost Charge will be. Throughout the environment you will encounter U-shaped channels known as half-pipes. Using the Boost Ball in theses areas will let you reach higher places. Build a charge as you descend in the half-pip, then trigger the Boost as you ascend the other side. This will give you the speed and momentum you need to reach new heights."[6]

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

"When charging, the longer you hold B Button GCN.png , the longer (and faster) the Boost Charge will be. Throughout the environment you will encounter U-shaped channels known as half-pipes. Using the Boost Ball in theses areas will let you reach higher places. Build a charge as you descend in the half-pip, then trigger the Boost as you ascend the other side. This will give you the speed and momentum you need to reach new heights. You can damage some enemies by "boosting" into them."[7]

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

"When charging, the longer you hold B, the longer (and faster) the boost charge will be. Throughout the environment you will encounter U-shaped channels known as Half-pipes. Using the Boost Ball in these areas will let you reach higher places. Build a charge as you descend in the Half-pipe, then trigger the Boost as you ascend the other side. This will give you the speed and momentum you need to reach new heights. Some mechanisms will have circular channels that the Morph Ball can boost around. Repeatedly boosting through these channels will build a kinetic charge which will activate these devices. You can damage some enemies by boosting into them."[8]
