{{SP Data|Prime Breach|Subject Metroid Prime's breach has been contained. Reports indicate that it sensed a large batch of raw Phazon in the lab from within its stasis tank and broke through the glass, using previously unsuspected strength. Besides consuming all of the Phazon, Metroid Prime assimilated several weapons and defense systems from fallen security units. It has suffered no ill effect from said assimilation: indeed, it began to use its newly acquired weapons against us. Once we pacified it, we were unable to remove the assimilated gear without threat to Metroid Prime — the gear is now an integral part of its body. Command is intrigued by this newfound ability, and has ordered further study to commence at once.<ref>{{cite|Subject Metroid Prime's breach has been contained. {{SP Data|Prime Mutations|Metroid Prime continues to feed and grow ever larger in the impact crater caves. Its hunger knows no bounds, and it has begun to manifest unusual mutations since its breach. These screens render it invulnerable to most weapon systems, but a flaw in the mutation leads to increased vulnerability to certain weapons. It compensates for this by shifting the screens quickly. This latest development concerns Security units greatly: they feel it's a matter of time before Metroid Prime corrects this defect and renders itself invulnerable to all weaponry. Containment would be nigh impossible if this were to occur.<ref>{{cite|Metroid Prime continues to feed and grow ever larger in the impact crater caves. Walkthrough
StrategyWiki strategy guide and walkthrough wiki

Metroid Prime is a Phazon mutated Metroid found in the Impact Crater on Tallon IV. It is armed with numerous weapons including versions of Samus's beam weapons that can fire sustained blasts. With the exception of the Wave Beam, which momentarily disables the visor, Metroid Prime's beam weapons have the same effect as Samus's. It also has a Snare Beam which is a green light which traps Samus Aran and pulls her to himself.

Battle

Samus battles it in several chambers, and Metroid Prime becomes increasingly aggressive and uses more attacks the more Samus damages it. Metroid Prime's weakpoint, its head, is vulnerable to the beam weapon it is currently using (which Samus can tell by the color of Metroid Prime is). An example would be if Metroid Prime is purple, he will be using and be affected by the Wave Beam, yellow for Power Beam, white for Ice Beam, and red for Plasma Beam. However it will shift the weapons in an attempt to avoid attacks. Sometimes Metroid Prime will try and ram into Samus and she will need to use her Morph Ball to escape. After Samus defeats Metroid Prime's exoskeleton, it falls down a long shaft. After Samus follows it, Metroid Prime's core essence attacks her.

Metroid Prime's core form

While in its core form, Metroid Prime attacks with large shocks waves and is also capable of becomes invisible and spawning a variety of Metroids. None of Samus's normal weapons can damage Metroid Prime, though by standing in pools of Phazon it generates, Samus can power her Phazon Beam and use it to defeat Metroid Prime.

After Samus defeats Metroid Prime, it latches onto her. Samus manages to escape at the cost of her Phazon Suit. Metroid Prime later uses the suit to become Dark Samus.

Metroid Prime Pinball

Metroid Prime also appears on the Impact Crater table in Metroid Prime Pinball. In this game, Metroid Prime is battled in both its exo and core forms. It will attack Samus with an energy blast while Metroids occasionally appear while in its exo form. When in its core form, Metroid Prime can fire energy blasts and homing projectiles.
