The PED Suit is a unique armor system developed for Samus Aran after she is corrupted by Phazon during the events of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. It relies upon the Galactic Federation-developed Phazon Enhancement Device technology to harness the power of Phazon for use in battle.

Normally, a PED draws energy from Phazon stored in a backpack, as is the case with PEDs used by Federation PED Marines. Samus's and the other Bounty Hunters' PED Suits, however, draw energy from the Phazon stored inside of their respective bodies; therefore, Samus must use an Energy Tank to activate Hypermode. The PED suit also alters the Morph Ball appearance to a blue form, similar to the bright blue color indicating the presence of Phazon or a Phaaze-like substance. The PED mode is highly dangerous; prolonged use can ultimately lead to total corruption. The PED suit also reduces damage inflicted on Samus.
