Other M Editing

Hmm? Oh yeah, sorry about that. It was meant to go somewhere else, I just pressed the wrong button completely. It should have changed back by now, if not then I guess I have a heap of stuff to do. DCLegend0Nine

It's not much of a problem unless it's recurring, so just make sure not to do it again, mkay? Many new users end up copying from Wikitroid, no es bueno. And to sign your name at the end of the post like others do, write out four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your post and you should get your signature. --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 15:03, 26 September 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ok. It won't be done again and thanks for the info.

No prob, don't worry too much about it. --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 15:48, 26 September 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That's good to know. I'll keep my eyes open for anything that'll need changing on the wiki. I'm good with grammatical errors.

Hornoad

Sorry,

I just wanted to make a article.

I didn't know it was wrong.

Thanx 4 the warning.

Metroid Online

Hey,

There are 3 Online Metroid Games. Can i make pages for them on the Wiki?

Here are the links:

Metroid: Elements

Metroid: GENESIS

Metroid: Hunter

I've played them alot and there really fun.

--BountyhunterM 22:26, 17 November 2010 (UTC)//User_Talk:BountyhunterMReply[reply]

Those aren't official games and there are many more than that, so at this time no articles for them. This may change in approval if a higher up staff member decides so though. On another note your signature is a tad bit obscure, want some help making your own custom signature? MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 22:51, 17 November 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Skype

I dont know if i did it right, but i sent you a Skype request so could you add me to the chat? Thanks --Nintendbob 21:28, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Is your Skype username exactly "nintendbob" ? Cuz that's listed in our public chat, but i haven't seen you on. --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 23:57, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thats it, just nintendbob. --Nintendbob 01:07, 25 January 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Then maybe Metroidking did something wrong, there I sent you a contact request. Now I can try. Or maybe you're in the chat but don't know it. Skype, in case you didn't know, doesn't work like IRCs. --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 01:35, 25 January 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

This Wiki

I am a member of MarioWiki that came over through NIWA. I notice in the Recent Changes that unfortunately, not a lot of editing is being done on the actual wiki. There seems to be only three consistent editors, all of whom are admins, and who are spending a large deal of time dealing with vandals. I would like to contribute to the actual articles, so I'm wondering what needs doing the most. Geekiness is an end, not a means - Bop1996 20:16, 17 April 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah we been having a lot of spam lately. As for contributing to the actual articles, just contribute wherever you are knowledgeable (working on our stubs is also a good idea). Any and all contributions are welcomed and appreciated.
I took a look at your MarioWiki page, "The Omega Pirate is really hard, unless you come with 13 energy tanks, 240 missiles, and 8 power bombs." Try that baby with no collected Energy Tanks, Missiles, or Power Bombs on hard mode in the original NTSC version where Power Bombs do nothing to it. MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 20:30, 17 April 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I bought Prime Trilogy... and for the record, I stunk, hard at the Omega Pirate. My saving grace was my ability to sidestep. I actually lost more life from Fission Metroids later on in the mines... I will try to contribute when and where I can, I was just wondering if there is some huge problem that needs fixing... Geekiness is an end, not a means - Bop1996 20:51, 17 April 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
We're a bit lacking in our Corruption content, probably the best place for you to work (also one on the places I can't help with cause I don't have the game). MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 20:56, 17 April 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think I'll mostly be editing in the Prime Trilogy articles in general, as those are the ones I own. I'm going to have to split my editing time between here and MarioWiki now... Geekiness is an end, not a means - Bop1996 21:09, 17 April 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dark Samus Edit

Sorry for the mistake on the Dark Samus article. I'll make sure it doesn't happen again.Transdimensionalflux 18:04, 19 April 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Upgrades Template

When I added location and how to obtain to the Morph Ball page, I was basing it off the format used on the Boost Ball page, because I thought that worked well. My only problem is that other pages, such as Missile, use a slightly different style for that section. I would like to know which style is preferable, so I can keep the style consistent on all the upgrades' respective pages. Geekiness is an end, not a means - Bop1996 01:30, 20 April 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The different format is due to both articles using different infoboxes, I'll add the "how to obtain" section to the weapon infobox. We meant to do that a long time ago. MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 01:55, 20 April 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hmmm, didn't think of that... Do we want the Metroid and Zero Mission sections merged where they are the same from game to game? Geekiness is an end, not a means - Bop1996 11:18, 20 April 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If there are absolutely no notable differences regarding the acquisition of an item, yeah a merger is probably best. MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 17:35, 20 April 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Self-Destruct Sequence

Metroidking, it appears to me that several Metroid articles link to a page called self-destruct sequence.

It seems that this article is in need of creation for articles with the self-destruct sequence occurring like:

There are probably many other articles, but I am not sure.

I was about to create this page because it is in dire need, but the page was vandalized and deleted, apparently by Metroid haters. Should I create this page?Transdimensionalflux 01:08, 22 April 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Luminoth Temple Image

Hello Metroidking, I just added an image to the picture requests page and saw that you had removed it. I was not so much putting it there for the Luminoth Temple forum page so much as trying to get the Luminoth model/portrait/art without the dark background. I have seen a Luminoth posed that way floating around (on the cover of a Nintendo Power magazine/ on the website itself) but not in a white background render type form. Is that not the correct place to put it, or is there somewhere that I can get that render? Thanks, Safalaan 21:50, 5 May 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah that was the correct place to put it. Before you add it back however, I'm going to check around to see if there are any high resolution versions of it. No luck thus far though. MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 21:59, 5 May 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Embyr 75 has rendered the image, you can see it here. MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 23:35, 5 May 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's a Luminoth, how could I resist? I'll keep my eyes open for a higher res, too. Embyr 75  --Talk-- 23:36, 5 May 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Freaking Awesome! Thank you guys! The Luminoth are some of the more interesting species in the Metroid series IMO. This would look awesome on U-Mos' page as well!Safalaan 00:01, 6 May 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
In this case, not entirely sure if that is U-Mos. However if you can find a source that definitely says it is him, we'll add it to his article. MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 00:11, 6 May 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Re:Signing

I had no idea I was supposed to do that, I had included it in the past just because I used ~~~~ to sign. On MarioWiki, it's left as a matter of personal preference whether you include a timestamp or not (although I can see where wanting one on comes in, don't have a problem with that), and I usually don't include it there. I will sign all my future comments with a timestamp. Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 19:33, 20 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks. While we don't have a rule that explicitly says include a timestamp, it definitely is helpful to know when it was posted. MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 19:47, 20 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hmm, at least the lore entries are well organized and easy to find... that'll make referencing very easy for the Prime trilogy. Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 00:44, 21 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Lore/Logbook entires are the easy stuff, doesn't require any creative writing or meticulous research on the subject. And as for you doing only a small amount of the section at a time, don't worry about it. We don't (usually) go nuts here if a person does more than one edit to the same article in a short amount of it. MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 02:14, 21 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, that makes sense, although it's still nice to be able to access them quickly and readily for referencing purposes. My multiple edit thing is yet another thing I took with me from the Mario Wiki (I spent a little too much time there, jk). I think the MarioWiki admins encourage doing as much in one edit as possible and marking minor edits as minor mostly due to the fact that it greatly helps patrollers that are patrolling the recent changes; this doesn't seem to be too much of a problem here, so I think I'll be fine... Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 13:10, 21 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Metroid Wiki is pretty chill when it comes to rules like that. Rules of any kind really. Mainly because regardless of what people do here, it's much easier to manage considering so little people edit. We do crack down on copy/pasting though, so just about nothing you do can really be a problem :] --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 14:43, 22 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Sounds good, I'll try not to be a liability ;) It's the difference between a five or six year old wiki and a one-year old wiki. I wouldn't like copying and pasting, that just doesn't feel right, that shouldn't be a temptation for me. Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 17:25, 24 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You have good editing habits and don't do anything that annoys us or degrades the quality of the wiki so I doubt you'd ever be a liability. MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 17:56, 24 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks... I think I could get used to the less uptight things here, I just need to find some sort of balance in editing time once I return to MarioWiki... Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 19:10, 24 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Prime 3 section

Well, I rewrote the first four paragraphs of the Prime 3 section in Samus Aran, referenced everything (aside from some in-game quotes I plan on writing down when I play through the game), and I'm personally very happy with what is there at the moment. My issue is that there are four paragraphs on just the beginning section before the main body of the game, while the main body of the game and end-game take up five paragraphs, most of which are rather short. How detailed should I be when rewriting the paragraphs on the main body of the game? Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 20:18, 25 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sorry about the late response. Malake256 (preferred to get his opinion on the matter cause he's played the entire game and would be a better judge at it) and I have talked it over, it definitely should be detailed enough to get the basic info out, saying what Samus did overall. In Malake's opinions, the way it's written right now is fine in terms of detail. MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 19:11, 26 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So basically, we want the background of the game, major game events, and the major details of the ending sections? I'm guessing that the finer points of the actual body of the game will be on Metroid (series) and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, while the section on Samus' article will need to have details that affect Samus personally (such as encounters with the other hunters, etc.). Btw, don't mind the late reply, I understand the delay. Oh, and since this is the first section I'm writing or rewriting on Samus' article (planning on rewriting or writing all the other in-game sections and background), I'm planning on treating the other sections in a similar fashion, both for consistency and ease of editing. Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 20:46, 26 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Correct, the Samus article should have Samus's most major involvements in what goes on. But the Corruption and Metroid series articles should be much, much more detailed. So lets say the Echoes part of the article should go into what Samus does throughout the game, but shouldn't go into detail at all as to locations of Energy tanks or anything like that. Encounters with Dark Samus and Space Pirates should be mentioned, but not encounters with idk, less significant things. Hmm, this is really difficult I guess, and really it's mostly up to you how detailed you want it. If it's unnecessarily detailed, it'll probably have to be trimmed, but I doubt that'd happen, so just edit the thing :D --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 20:51, 26 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Makes sense... I guess editing the article is the answer to all the questions isn't it? Is there a section in particular that you two would prefer I fix or write after I finish the Prime 3 section? Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 00:04, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You play any other games besides the Prime trilogy? It'd be ineffective to request you to write/fix something you no nothing about. The Prime 1 and Echoes section are fairly well written and referenced, however there's always room for improvement (where in those two sections, I don't know). MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 05:43, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I bought Super Metroid but haven't played through it yet, I don't really play more of one Nintendo series compared to another... Even though I haven't played through some of the games, I read anything and everything I could find on them all over the place; I know enough about, say, Metroid: Other M to write up a section on Samus' article without playing the game (probably not enough to write the game article). In my experience, playing the game is not a prerequisite to writing at least a destubbing of a section, or adding some image, referencing something, etc. I do consider the Prime Trilogy to be where I understand the most, and I should be able to write the most there, but since my goal right now is to get the articles that need to be huge, long, and comprehensive off the ground, I feel as if I should be writing in sections I have less knowledge on. Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 12:09, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Music

I found a site that has VGM from every Metroid game, and I was wondering if it would be beneficial if I were to add it for bosses (or some locations) where appropriate. Metroid4Ever 07:27, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You know, we've been talking about that for a reallllly long time, in fact we just talked about it yesterday. To be honest, we're scared Metroid Wiki may face some copyright problems with that :/ But having like boss music on the infobox or something would be extremely sick. I was thinking maybe we could get legal samples of them, but I'm not too sure on getting full-length pieces. --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 15:27, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Can't you specify the length when inserting it into a page? For example, Flaahgra's theme on that site is 3:50, but we could set it as a minute or something. If we can't insert it at all, we could always have the site as an external link. Metroid4Ever 16:44, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Linking to it isn't a problem at all, you can go ahead and do that all you want, in fact Metroid Recon is a very reliable website and an affiliate of ours, so linking to it is encouraged :] I don't know much about copyright laws when it comes to music really. I just know it's not the safest game to play by uploading copyrighted music to a wiki. I'm positive most if not all of the music from each game has copyright claims by Nintendo. I'm not sure how long samples we can legally use or whatever, lol sorry --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 18:50, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Fair enough, I'll just link to it then, though there was a license I used on the MarioWiki (seen here). I don't know if this wiki has a similar license. Metroid4Ever 19:06, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That's really cool, and that's exactly what I'd like to have on lets say the Flaahgra infobox or something, its boss music. I'll have to chat with Prod about it, maybe he'll know more. Really, I'm trying to be cautious. --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 19:24, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I understand. Let me know what's decided. Right now, I'm just adding themes to articles as external links. Metroid4Ever 19:34, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for the info. I'll be more careful in the future, and you're welcome. As for the references, I'll get right on it. I actually didn't know they were needed (referring to the Other M section, not the image). Metroid4Ever 23:04, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

About the image, it happens. You're not the first one to do it here. And for the references, that's one of the things that we want here to separate us from how Wikitroid does things (not badmouthing them on this, they are a great source for Metroid info). It helps to prove to our readers that what is on our articles is true. MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 23:42, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Favreau

Sorry. I'm still getting used to the way things are done here. Metroid4Ever 00:21, 29 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It's quite alright. The main reason why I'm erring on the side of caution regarding using those images here is merely cause Metroid Database has requested that people get permission to use them. MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 01:06, 29 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

NTSC or PAL?

When referencing Space Pirate Logs and Chozo Lore from Metroid Prime, do I use the NTSC or PAL lore entries? As an aside, the PAL version makes more sense to me, at least from a plausibility standpoint (the bit about the Space Pirates holding the Metroid Prime didn't make much sense to me, the PAL corrections fix stuff such as that). Slightly related to that is the question of which version we accept as canon here, I'd be in favor of using the PAL version, despite what Retro Studios has said regarding the changes. Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 22:59, 29 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Canon wise, the PAL version is what we should use as the NTSC version of Trilogy used them. The original lore is still kept here for referencing older versions of the game, so if you do make any corrections to articles that have them (like this one), please don't remove mentions of the text. MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 23:18, 29 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That makes sense. I'll bear that in mind when editing. Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 23:26, 29 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Gallery

You know how we got the new galleries to look? Should it be placed in power.css for everyone to see? Or should we instead make the thumb class look like that. That was my plan a longgg time ago, but here we are using it as galleries. It really is about what looks coolest in the end lol--Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 04:46, 7 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

We can try it and see how everyone else likes it. Do it! Do it! Do it! MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 05:01, 7 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Lol, I'll also add rounded cat boxes while im at it, what about the diffs? Maybe I could get other colors though, the ones I'm using still aren't the best looking, but certainly purple is cooler than yellow haha. --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 05:10, 7 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I've been using the diff modifications for a couple days, but the new colors don't really look well together in my opinion. There be many different shades of purple we can try though! MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif 05:34, 7 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That's pretty much what I was sayin :D we can work on that later, when I have time and we're both on skype --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 05:41, 7 July 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey, I need to inform you all of something

I was looking around the site earlier and found that someone named TROLOLOL messed up a lot of pages. I went in a redid them, but I don't know if you all do anything when someone vandalizes dozen of pages. You can see all revisions I fixed on my contributions page, but also, here's a link to a Screenshot that has them all from his contributions page. I put this on all the admins pages so someone sees it., I don't know how often you all are online, so yeah... anyway, here you go, here's the link: http://awesomescreenshot.com/014h8842a

Room Articles

Well, it seems that we have enough room articles for this to be an issue now... The way most of our room articles have been formatted is fairly simple. We just use the infobox, describe the room some, explain any important features or scan data, the enemies that inhabit the room, etc. If we're lucky, we have a Gallery, a Trivia, and a See Also, but those are not terribly common. This was true of our few existing room articles before Nintendbob created the Prime rooms (and now apparently the Prime 2 rooms as well), and he followed that format in a very consistent manner. Several new room articles have been made recently that don't quite conform to this pattern. Should we go to those room articles and change them so that they are no longer inconsistent with the normal format for rooms? Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 18:48, 14 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

For the sake of consistency, all room articles definitely should be formated in a similar style. MKMetroid mf Sprite.gif
Alright then, I'll go and re-format all room articles that I noticed were inconsistent after I finish my Portal Table thingy. Thanks. Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 19:31, 14 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image help

Hey, I'm trying to add images to pages with the {{image}} and {{stub}} templates, but everytime I try and place one, say 200+px sized in a section with little text, it overlaps into lower sections and looks really bad. How can I prevent this? Here's a screenshot to show you what I mean. I attempted to add a picture to Boost Ball's page, but this happened. http://tinypic.com/r/dpv23b/7 Thanks MetroidKing! :) Findow 08:27, 30 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
