Meta Ridley was completing his final upgrades in  Frigate Orpheon, that is until 2 out of 3 Parasite Queens busted out of their containment module's and began to ravage Frigate Orpheon apart. As Samus Aran kills the final Parasite Queen, Samus encounters Meta Ridley. Meta Ridley quickly escapes the deteriorating Frigate Orpheon and Samus follows. Meta Ridley was not seen until Samus first visits the Phendrana Drifts, where he was seen heading towards Phazon Mines. After Samus obtains all 12 Chozo Artifacts and is about to enter the Impact Crater, Meta Ridley attacks. Samus defeats him and Meta Ridley is assumed dead after a direct hit by a laser beam (from the Artifact Temple statues) and a fall off a cliff.

Meta Ridley is a cybernetic transformation of the dragon-like creature geoform 187, code-named Ridley. After the events of Metroid, Ridley was revived as a mechanical counterpart, Meta Ridley.

Creation[edit | edit source]

Meta Ridley on Frigate Orpheon

After Ridley's defeat at the hands of Samus Aran on the planet Zebes, the Space Pirates resuscitated him and began reconstruction on his mortally damaged body on Frigate Orpheon,[1][2] enhancing him with metagenetic and cybernetic improvements and an array of weapons systems, including a Multi-Missile System, a Kinetic Breath Weapon, an Ultrathermal Flamestrike Projector, and a Meson Bomb Launcher. These supplements resulted in a drastic increase in strength, mobility, and offensive capability, making him a perfect candidate for the pride of the Space Pirate security force.[3]

Appearances[edit | edit source]

Metroid Prime[edit | edit source]

Meta Ridley was on-board the Space Pirate Frigate Orpheon when the mutated Parasite Queens being experimented upon there broke free and began wreaking havoc, and briefly encountered Samus Aran before escaping the deteriorating Frigate and heading for Tallon IV. Samus follows Meta Ridley but does not encounter him again until she is exploring the Phendrana Drifts, where his shadow is seen as he flies overhead in the direction of the Phazon Mines.

After Samus obtains all 12 Chozo Artifacts and is about to enter the Impact Crater, Meta Ridley confronts her in the Artifact Temple and a battle ensues. Initially, Meta Ridley attacks Samus from the air with his long-range arsenal, destroying the Chozo totems in the process. After incurring sufficient damage, however, his wings disintegrate and he engages her in melee combat on the ground.

Samus defeats Meta Ridley, and he is assumed dead after a direct hit by a laser beams emitted from the statues adorning the Artifact Temple and a fall off a cliff into the Impact Crater.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption[edit | edit source]

Meta Ridley was revived after that fall, re-equipped with the same systems, and given Phazite Armor before he appears again. Samus witnesses Meta Ridley attacking Norion and was first seen attacking a platoon of Galactic Federation Marines.

Samus has to face him while in traveling through confining spaces in Morph Ball form and use Bombs to shake him off while evading his attacks.

Afterwards, she manages to get to Generator C, where Meta Ridley attacks again. He lunges at her from above and forces them both through the floor into an extremely long shaft beneath the generator. They engage in battle while in a state of free-fall, and Samus manages to emerge victorious before they impact the base of the shaft. Meta Ridley is presumed destroyed, but he is revived again as Omega Ridley.
