The Gravity Suit is an upgrade that has appeared in many Metroid titles, first shown in Super Metroid. The function of the suit is to allow Samus Aran to move freely underwater, and in some cases, in lava. The suit also reduces damage taken by enemies.
Appearances
Super Metroid
The suit's first appearance was in Super Metroid. It is found in the Wrecked Ship after defeating Phantoon. It is required to explore Maridia and get to Ridley's Hideout, as well as aquire a few Missile Expansions and Energy Tanks. The suit reduces 25% of damage taken by enemies, and 75% combined with the Varia Suit.
Metroid Fusion
The Gravity suit remains the same in Metroid Fusion and is very useful in the magma-infested Sector 3. Damage taken is reduced by 70% with the suit equipped. It is also allows Samus to use the Speed Booster underwater.
Metroid: Zero Mission
The suit once again remains exactly how it was in the previous titles, yet it only reduces taken damage by 50%.
Metroid Prime
The Gravity Suit returns in Metroid Prime and is found in the Gravity Chanber in Phendrana Drifts. It retains the sae function as the previous games and is required to explore the crashed Frigate Orpheon and get to Phazon Mines. The suit reduces damage by a mere but useful 20%.
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
The Gravity Suit does not appear in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, but a similar upgrade that serves the same purpose called the Gravity Boost can be obtained in Torvus Bog.

In most games in the series, this suit also blocks lava damage and friction. In addition, it allows Samus to use item bonuses like the High Jump, Space Jump, and Speed Booster, even when underwater or in lava.
Trivia
- The Gravity Suit is replaced by the Hazard Shield in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. It is interesting to point out that there is actually no water in the game besides rain. A liquid substance called Fuel Gel appears, but the enhancements with the Hazard Shield are not nearly as much as the Gravity Suit.
