The Luminoth, as a species, are a warrior race, but are also extremely technologically advanced.
After their world was split, many of their finest achievements fell into the hands of their fierce enemy, the Ing. Samus acquires some of these devices and bonds them to her Varia Suit.
Luminoth Equipment
Energy Transfer Module
- Main article: Energy Transfer Module
The Energy Transfer Module was created by the Luminoth to harness Aether's planetary energy. The Ing stole it and used it as a weapon against the Luminoth. It bonds with Samus in the Great Temple after she defeats the Alpha Splinter.
Dark Beam
- Main article: Dark Beam
The Dark Beam was invented by the Luminoth to use a weapon against the Ing under the premise that Ing could be overloaded with dark energy.[1] The results were less than satisfactory, and they moved on to other pursuits.[2]
Darkburst
- Main article: Darkburst
The Darkburst is the Charge Combo for the Dark Beam.
Light Beam
The Light Beam was a much more successful alternative to using the Dark Beam. It used concentrated light energy instead of dark energy and proved devastating to the Ing Horde.
Sunburst
- Main article: Sunburst
The Sunburst is the Charge Combo for the Light Beam.
Gravity Boost
- Main article: Gravity Boost
The Gravity Boost is a hydrodynamic jet-pack that allows for greater mobility underwater. The Luminoth undoubtedly created it for use in Torvus Bog after their temple flooded.
Annihilator Beam
- Main article: Annihilator Beam
The Annihilator Beam is a devastating combination of light and dark energy.[3] It was among the deadly weaponry wielded by the Champion of Aether before she was killed and her equipment was stolen.
Sonic Boom
- Main article: Sonic Boom
The Sonic Boom is the Charge Combo for the Annihilator Beam.
Echo Visor
- Main article: Echo Visor
The Echo Visor was another piece of equipment used by the Champion of Aether.[4] It is a sonic imaging device that uses sound waves to enable to wearer to "see" the world around her.[5] It can be used to detect enemies invisible to the light spectrum and interface with sonic devices.
Luminoth Mechanoids
The Luminoth created several different kinds of mechanoids for various purposes, but many of these were eventually possessed by the Ing and turned against their creators. O-Lir, Sentinel of the Fortress Temple, was among the foremost inventors - if not the sole inventor - of these mechanoids.[6]
Caretaker Class Drone
- Main article: Caretaker Class Drone
The Caretaker Class Drone was designed to maintain an experimental energy chamber in Sanctuary Fortress. When Samus enters that chamber, it engages her in battle.
Corrupted Sentreye
- Main article: Corrupted Sentreye
Corrupted Sentreyes were originally built to serve the Luminoth but have all since been possessed by the Ing to protect their camps on Dark Aether. They attack by firing a continuous beam of energy whenever they detect an enemy.
Diligence Class Drone
- Main article: Diligence Class Drone
Diligence Class Drones were originally cleaning units but were refitted for combat during the war. They are invulnerable to most attacks but can be damaged using any weapon that utilizes dark energy.
Dark Diligence Class Drone
- Main article: Dark Diligence Drone
Dark Diligence Drones are Diligence Class Drones that have been possessed by the Ing. Their weakness is light energy.
Harmony Class Drone
- Main article: Harmony Class Drone
Harmony Class Drones are independent, free-roaming mechanoids that use focused electrical beams and kinetic pulses to perform their cleaning duties. Samus can destroy them using various kinds of weaponry.
Ingsmasher
- Main article: Ingsmasher
Ingsmashers are rogue combat mechanoids that were originally designed to fight the Ing. They are fitted with opposite-polarity shielding and are equipped with powerful short- and long-range weaponry.
Dark Ingsmasher
- Main article: Dark Ingsmasher
Dark Insmashers are Ingsmashers that have been possessed by the Ing. They are top priority possession targets for the Ing Horde.[7]
Lightflyer
- Main article: Lightflyer
Lightflyers are flying drones that fire upon anything living. When destroyed, they create a temporary Safe Zone.
Luminoth Turret
- Main article: Luminoth Turret
Luminoth Turrets are automated gun turrets used to protect the entrance to Sanctuary Fortress.
Mechlops
- Main article: Mechlops
Mechlops are mechanoids based on the Triclops of Tallon IV. They were created after attempts to domesticate Triclops for use in the war failed.[8]
Mekenobite
- Main article: Mekenobite
Mekenobites are patrolling mechanoids with use potent projectiles to destroy enemies. They cling to surfaces using magnetism and can only be destroy if both of its arms are attacked simultaneously.
Octopede
- Main article: Octopede
Octopedes were originally created to deliver data to Luminoth citizens but have since turned rogue. They self destruct if attacked with enough force to cause damage to those around them.
Quad
- Main article: Quad
Quads are mechanoids with advanced melee and energy-based attacks. They are made up of a Main Body and Command Module that can work as a single unit or function separately.
Dark Quad
- Main article: Dark Quad
Dark Quads are Ing-possessed Quads. Dominant Ing possess the Command Module and force lesser Ing to possess the Main Body.[9]
Quadraxis
- Main article: Quadraxis
Quadraxis is the largest of the mechanoids and has absorbed the Annihilator Beam ability. It guards the Ing Hive's Energy Controller.
Rezbit
- Main article: Rezbit
Rezbits are small but powerful mechanoids, capable of generating impenetrable barrier shields, phasing into an energy state to avoid attacks, fire potent long-range attacks, and even upload viruses into Samus's armor system.
Serenity Class Drone
- Main article: Serenity Class Drone
Serenity Class Drones are among the only mechanoids that have no turned against their Luminoth creators. They perform routine maintenance without defenses or weapons. They also cannot be eaten, making them useless to the Horde.[10]
Watchdrone
- Main article: Watchdrone
Watchdrones have no offensive capabilities but are completely indestructible, making them useful for blocking access to key areas. The Luminoth used them to protect areas in Torvus. They move when exposed to light.
Luminoth Biotechnology
Some Luminoth creations are organic in nature: living creatures without mechanical structure.
Lightbringer
- Main article: Lightbringer
Lightbringers are surface prowling foragers created by the Luminoth for use on Dark Aether. Their crystalline makeup generates Safe Zones.
Luminoth Structures
Echo Key Beam System
- Main article: Echo Key Beam System
The Echo Key Beam System is a sonic security system made up of Echo Key Beam Emitters and Echo Gates. Only individuals with proper sonic detection gear can interface with it.
Energy Controller
- Main article: Energy Controller
The Energy Controllers stores Aether's planetary energy and were designed to interact with the Energy Transfer Module. There are a total of four Energy Controllers on Aether, and they each have a mirror on Dark Aether.
Concealed Movement Pad
- Main article: Concealed Movement Pad
Concealed Movement Pads are floating platforms designed to look like sentient creatures and confuse the Ing. They're controlled using a Light Crystal embedded in the underbelly.
Lift Crystal
- Main article: Lift Crystal
Lift Crystals were designed to raise or lower platforms by switching their polarity using the Dark or Light Beam.
