The Hyper Beam is a powerful Beam Weapon in the Metroid series. It has appeared in three games, but only taking a major role in one.
Super Metroid
In Super Metroid, the Hyper Beam appears in the final battle with Mother Brain. After the Super Metroid is killed, its remains fall on Samus, giving her the Hyper Beam. After Mother Brain is defeated, Samus escapes Planet Zebes before it detonates. The Hyper Beam is the ultimate weapon in the game as it defeats any enemy in one shot, and can even destroy some walls.
Metroid Prime
In Metroid Prime, the "Phazon Beam" makes another brief appearance in the second phase of the Metroid Prime. When Samus steps into pools of Phazon that the creature seems to retch out, she enters "Hyper-Mode" and can damage the creature with the Phazon Beam.
Corruption
The Hyper Beam makes a major role in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. After Dark Samus corrupts Samus and the other hunters, Samus acquires the PED Suit, allowing her to enter Hypermode and transform her Power Beam into the Hyper Beam. She can fire ordinary shots or charge the beam to fire a continuous stream of energy. A fully charged Hyper Charge Beam is the most powerful weapon in game, as it drains more Phazon energy than a Hyper Missile. While firing, a Phazon Meter appears and Hypermode will end if Samus empties the bar. However, if she gets corrupted and does not expel the Phazon quickly enough, she will be fully corrupted and it will be game over. A full Energy Tank is depleted to start Hypermode.
