Plasma Beam

|
The Plasma Beam is a Chozo-designed upgrade to Samus's Arm Cannon. It serves different functions in its different appearances in the Metroid series. It is the one of the most powerful beam weapons in Samus's arsenal.
In Metroid II: Return of Samus, Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion It has the ability to pass through enemies allowing it to hit multiple targets, this effect is also carried over when the Plasma Beam is stacked with other weapons.[1][2] In Metroid II, the Plasma Beam can also travel through walls.[3] Samus can obtain the Plasma Beam in Metroid: Zero Mission as an Unknown Item with the same effects, though she cannot use it until she defeats the Ruins Test.
In Super Metroid, it allows Samus to execute a Plasma Shield, but it cannot be equipped with the Spazer Beam.
Metroid Prime series
In the Metroid Prime series, it serves as a heat based weapon, allowing Samus to melt both ice and frigidite and ignite foes.[4] A charged shot can reduce most enemies to a cloud of ashes instantly.
In Metroid Prime 3 it can be used to weld or melt some objects. While the beam is weaker than in Metroid Prime, it has a higher rate of fire.[5]
While not present in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, the Light Beam is capable of igniting enemies.
Flamethrower
- Main article: Flamethrower
The Flamethrower is the Plasma Beam's Charge Combo. It allows Samus to fire a steady stream of fire that ignites any nearby opponents. Using this weapon is costly as it rapidly consumes Missiles, five per second plus the ten it takes to initialize the Charge Combo.
