Sandgates are barriers of Luminoth design encountered behind the sculpture of D-Chr in the Mining Station A of Agon Wastes.

The powerful alloy of which the gates are composed can be damaged only by weapons of artillery grade or higher.[1] As Samus possesses a limited arsenal when she encounters them, a terminal on a nearby catwalk can be scanned to initiate an automated function to move the Sandgates to the open position instead.[2] When the gates move aside, a concealed door to the Central Station Access is revealed. The gates are controlled by a mechanism that is apparently a component of a larger mining system used to extract minerals from raw ore.[3]
