Kinetic Orb Cannons are mechanisms that can launch the Morph Ball great distances at high velocity,[1][2] featured in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. The original purpose of the cannon is unclear, but it may have been designed for industrial use and later modified for use as a combat system in conjunction with Kinetic Orbs.[3] Samus utilizes Kinetic Orb Cannons to sail over large distances or to shatter obstacles that can only be removed by heavy impact.[4][2] There are also Kinetic Orb Cannons in Torvus Bog constructed specifically for use underwater via tube systems. Most of the cannons in Corruption must be activated with a Spinner device, forcing Samus to find alternate routes or means of traversal to achieve her objective until she has acquired the Boost Ball.[2]
The kinetic force resulting from using the cannon can also be used to eliminate enemies, including opponents in Echoes' multiplayer mode.
