Jumpmines are small Space Pirate mechanisms used to block passageways from unsuspecting intruders. They are analogous to land mines, with the exception that Jumpmines propel into the air before firing and exploding. Jumpmines are placed in many areas by the Space Pirates, including Norion, the G.F.S. Valhalla, Bryyo, Elysia, and the Pirate Homeworld. They are assumed not to have been invented until the events of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Although hard to spot in Samus's standard Scan Visor, if Samus can spot Jumpmines from a distance, she can shoot them and destroy them. One shot from any weapon can destroy these feeble machines.

Logbook

The Jumpmine was developed by the Space Pirates as a cheap alternative to an armed trooper. The Jumpmine scans its surroundings until it detects an enemy target. It then triggers a small thruster, "jumping" a set distance in the air. Once launched, its weapon pod is engaged, saturating the local area with fire. It explodes afterwards to prevent use by enemy forces.[1]
