Dark Pirate Troopers are Pirate Troopers possessed by the Ing. Their training to follow orders led the Ing to seek them out for possession.[1] As with all Darklings, they are more resilient and stronger than their prior forms. Samus first encounters them in Agon Wastes, and then battles more in Dark Agon Wastes and the Temple Grounds. She does not battle Dark Pirate Troopers in Sanctuary Fortress, but she witnesses Dark Samus killing a small group of them there.

Pirate troopers, already trained to follow orders without question, were perfect candidates for Ing possession. Darklings moved to take every trooper they could, expanding the army of the Horde considerably. Space Pirate technology struck a chord with the Ing, who now hunt actively for gadgetry of any kind-especially weapon systems.[1]
